Was in town for the night and looking to try the local cuisine, so I ventured to the Galax Smokehouse because bbq sounded good that evening and it was a little late in the evening. I asked the waitress what she recommended and she suggested the ribs. Soooo, ribs it was! A half a rack (6) of tender, meaty ribs and your choice of 4 bbq sauces. I ordered baked beans and a side salad with that as well. For dessert was a YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BE DISAPPOINTED, VERY TASTY, AWARD WINNING BANANA PUDDING! 😊 The baked beans had pork in them but lacked flavor as I would expect them to have, but the ribs were deliciously tender and that is why I was there. Very good. I did order a cup of Brunswick stew to sample but apparently that was overlooked but it was removed from the bill. No problem. The service was prompt and polite. I would return here and I'd recommend the bbq here too!

We have eaten bbq in every southern state and this wins the prize for the worst! I had a sampler and hubby had a sloppy joe. The pulled pork had no flavor. It was like it had been soaked in water all day. The brisket was tough as shoe leather. I could not even eat it. The sauce had flavor but that was it. Hubby’s sloppy joe was nasty. He took one bite and stopped eating. It had an odd, old flavor. Like it had been reheated for a few days. The woman that was plating orders was complaining, loudly, the entire time. When we checked out and we were asked how it was the woman at the register became very combative. She said I seemed upset. Nope, just answering your question. She did not charge me although I insisted on paying. She just walked off with a huffy attitude!

I really did like the place. It looked and felt like an authentic BBQ joint and the staff was warm and friendly. But out of the 3 of us, no one really loved their entrees, and my brisket had no sign of a smoke ring. However we all loved the smoked mashed potatoes. It's just a shame that the entrees were nowhere nearly as good.

Excellent! We are visiting the area and found this restaurant online. Pulled pork was delicious. Everyone was so friendly. Will probably eat there again before we leave.

Tasty ribs and a great selection of bbq sauces!

The typical menu items I go for are their sloppy joes, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, and banana pudding. If you appreciate comfort food, then this is the place to dine in or order take out.

Went here the weekend before Easter with family who were in from out of town... We had a party of 5 adults and 2 teens and everyone seemed pleased with their orders. The ribs were tasty, as were the baked beans and corn nuggets, but the coleslaw was a huge disappointment... It had the taste and mouth-feel of what can only be described as watery sawdust, lol. Nonetheless, we'll probably come back- I'll just know for next time to SKIP that side item.

Great place for BBQ and always stop by when heading south from Canada.... worth the drive in from the interstate. Nothing fancy but the food is awesome.

Whenever we come up this way we always have to stop by and eat here. One of the best BBQ spots around. I highly recommend eating here.

Stopped here on our way back from a tubing ride on the river. The place was clean and very casual. The staff was courteous and friendly. Our waitress greeted us right away and took our orders promptly. We had the smoked chicken, once we added one or two of the special BBQ sauces it was delicious. Generous portions and reasonable prices. Definitely a keeper on our list.

Awesome food, awesome experience. Pulled pork is the way to go, though the other things are good too. Wait staff is friendly and attentive, and the BBQ themed decorations put you in the mood for some food. It's conveniently located on the main street through Galax, so there's no excuse not to try it when you are in town.

Traveling down the parkway and came across this place going to the welcome center. Great sides and main meals with reasonable pricing. Love the pictures and atmosphere inside too.

Always a great lunch. The pulled pork sandwich with one side is enough of a meal and I usually get to smoke mashed potatoes. It does come with a couple of hush puppies and corn fritters as well. The wait staff is always very friendly. There is four flavors of barbecue sauce. They also sell the barbecue sauce behind the counter at checkout. Oh and the banana pudding is quite good as well.

Since visiting Virginia I can't get enough vinegar based BBQ sauce! Here's a good place to try some on your favorite choice of tasty BBQ'd meat.

The brisket was tender and really good with the memphis sauce and there smoked mashed potatoes

Delicious and authentic bbq. I loved my choices of beef tips, beans and smoked mashed potatoes. I wasn't bug on the tea which was a but weak for my tastes but everything else was just perfect!

Best pulled pork sandwich around and the corn nuggets are to die for! Very friendly staff. Restaurant is in a cozy, historical setting with plenty of parking around the block.

Good selection of different meats and sauce styles. Sandwich I had was very good.The friends I was with also thought their meals were above average.

Visited Galax Smokehouse last weekend with family and enjoyed a tasty meal of pulled pork, baked beans, and green beans. Service was friendly and portions were reasonable for the cost. Everyone in our party enjoyed what they ordered and all agreed we would return on our next trip to this area.

One of our favorite places to eat. Ribs, brisket, pulled pork and chicken. The BBQ is wonderful and you can choose the sauce that you prefer. Sweet, hot, spicy, vinegar, whatever you're used to.

It was good. We had the brisket and the pulled pork. Both excellent. Mary really like the corn fritters and home fries. The sauces are very good as well. The malassass one was great with the brisket.

I usually do not write reviews but I had to comment on my experience here in hopes that someone in ownership/management will take action. In the past, my husband & I loved to eat at this restaurant while attending the local Hillsville Flea Market. Can't believe how much the quality of food has declined. My husband & I both ordered the brisket dinner. The meat was very tough & hard to cut with the plastic utensils provided. The fried potatoes had obviously been sitting in grease for a while & served cold. I am so disappointed because in the past this was a awesome place to eat while visiting the area. Our meal was $30 which was definitely not worth what we paid. We won't be back :(

I had the two meat lunch portion, with chicken and pulled pork. The chicken had a lot of smoke flavor but the pork didn’t. I tried the sauces provided on the table and asked for the Lexington, NC sauce. It’s nothing like Lexington bbq dip, I should know since I was born and raised there. The food was just par at best. The smell of smoke was definitely in the air, the food, not so much.
